Welcome to my thoughts on energy ... and in particular Feng Shui

I have so many ideas percolating in my mind about the movements of energy in the ancient Chinese system of Feng Shui and how it applies to the Western World. Over the years, other energy aspects have seemed to insinuate themselves into our practice ... many of them metaphysical and some of them from the newest scientific discoveries.

We work with clients using the art and science of Feng Shui to help them initiate changes in their lives by changing, enhancing and de-cluttering their environments ... we also create custom crystal enhancements - such as chi catchers.

I am using this blog to post articles for our friends and clients ... and just for the FUN of it! I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoy posting the blogs.

Clearing the Clutter

The very first thing that we recommend for our clients ... and I religiously do in my own environments ... is clearing out the CLUTTER. Clutter is defined in Feng Shui as anything -- ANYTHING -- that does not lift your spirits. If anything in your home does not make you feel good, or smile, then it is not supporting you energetically ... and if it is not supporting you, chances are that it is working against you and your desires.

Take a look at your environments (home, office, car) ... they tell you how your life is going. If there is chaos in any part of your environments, then there is chaos in the corresponding areas of your life.

Cleaning and organizing our environments is important in living comfortably, but it is only the beginning when we use Feng Shui to enhance the energies in our lives ... to have those energies support us. We also need to look at our stuff and see how it makes us "feel". All things have memories attached to them ... how do those memories make you feel. Everything also gives off it's own energy -- like posters of horror movies -- we need to consider if we want that particular energy in control of some portion of our life, because in some way it impacts us -- for good or ill.

The major tenant in Feng Shui when clearing our clutter is to decide if we really "love" something. When we "love" something and it makes us feel good whenever we see it ... then it will support us with positive energy. This is the ideal to strive for.

Also, there are probably many things in our environment that we consider "nice" but produce no emotions ... those things that we are neutral about, but find useful like toasters or file cabinets. These things that you can take or leave ... we usually suggest they be replaced eventually with something that makes you feel good. Because the more things in your environments that produce positive responses, the more positive energy will be in your life. This is what we mean when we talk about using our environments to support us.

Now, when it comes to things that we don't like and yet still have in our environments ... like something that a relative gave you and you keep because you feel "beholden" in some way ... or a piece of furniture that you "need" but do not like. Then, you are giving away some of your own energy every time you see it or use it ... and at the subconscious level you resist it and it does not make you feel good. Could there be areas in your life where these feelings of resistance, "need" and "beholding" mirror what is in your environment? Check the Bagua and see.

This also goes for things that are broken that have not been mended ... they bring the energy of "broken" into your environment and into your life. In what area of the Bagua are there "broken" things ... and could there be "broken" things in that area of your life?

And what kind of memories are attached to objects ... like furniture from an acrimonious divorce ... and in what area of your environment are they located?

Sometimes the easiest and most cost effective way to use Feng Shui principles is in the clearing of the clutter in our environments ... because, sure as shootin' as soon as we clear that clutter, our lives start to change in amazing and positive ways.

Consider your environment as a mirror of your life ... use the Bagua in the first posting and look for the parts of your environment that represent areas of your life you wish to enhance or change. Then, see what happens when you do a little clutter clearing in those areas.

Ciao, Laura
